Summary
In 2012, the Yellow Springs Village Council in Ohio adopted a community rights-based ordinance. The ordinance was spearheaded by a community group called Gas and Oil Drilling Awareness and Education. The ordinance banned shale gas drilling and fracking while also recognizing rights of nature. The ordinance also recognized various environmental rights and the right to water and a sustainable energy future for residents and nature. Yellow Springs still has this ordinance in effect.
