Summary
In 2018, Todd Township, Pennsylvania adopted a Community Bill of Rights ordinance banning industrial farming. The ordinance also recognized the rights of ecosystems and natural communities within the township, “which includes the right to be free from industrial farm activity as an infringement of this right.” The ordinance declares the right of self-government, the right to a healthy climate, right to a sustainable climate, right to sustainable agriculture, right to clean air, water and soil, the right to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic, and esthetic values of the environment, right to government representation, and right to protection from governmental and corporate influence. However, township supervisors repealed the ordinance the following year.
