Summary
In 2021, the president of Bolivia, David Choquehuanca, declared a call to action in order to re-establish people with Pachamama (Mother Earth). It calls for the creation of rights of nature, ecocide, and Defender of Mother Earth laws in light of climate change “provoked by the global crisis of capitalism.” The call to action touches on many reasons for a need to re-establish a connection with the Pachamama, such as pandemics leading towards a 6th extinction, GMOs, and unsustainable patterns of consumption. It also advertises an international event to discuss the proposal for a comprehensive global action plan to face the climate crisis.
