Summary
In 2014, a report by the Secretary-General drew on contributions made by the fourth interactive dialogue of the General Assembly. The report said panelists in the dialogue “were also convinced that, in order to achieve a just balance among the economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations, it is necessary to promote harmony with nature.” The report concludes by recognizing that “human health is thus inextricably linked to the health of the planet and living and producing in harmony with nature.” The report recommends that member states invite the Harmony with Nature Knowledge Network to to further advance the conceptualization of a new development paradigm that reflects the principles, drivers and values of living in harmony with nature; support the work being undertaken by member states in keeping with the “The future we want;” and ensure that the needs of both the planet and its people are equally taken into account.
