Summary
In 2019, the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador issued a statement calling on the Salvadoran State, and public and private sectors, to become aware of the problems related to the environment and join efforts for the sustainable development of ecosystems in order to develop a “harmony with nature”. It specifically encourages the public to care for nature, starting in our homes, by changing habits and daily activities, such as: saving water, planting trees, using reusable products, and especially educating children about environmental protection and living in harmony with nature.
The declaration states:
“Forests are living entities, key to the environment because of their carbon capture, oxygen production, water recharge, soil conservation, and biological diversity. Therefore, every human being must commit to caring for them, preserving them, respecting them, and promoting concrete actions that expand their coverage across the national territory, since without nature we do not exist; we are part of nature. In El Salvador, forests, especially the forest”.
