In 2016, an Executive Decree by the Presidency of the Republic of Costa Rica, the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the Ministry of Culture and Youth and the Ministry of Public Education decrees April 22 the “National Day of Mother Earth.” In the Explanatory section, it points out the importance of establishing a new relational form with the “Madre Tierra.” They refer to Madre Tierra (Mother Earth) as a common expression of indigenous peoples that refer to “the interdependence between human beings and other forms of life, as well as the delicate ecological and climatological balances that make it possible.”
