Summary

The regional coordinator of the Riobamba Mining Regulation and Control Agency presented an extraordinary protection action for ruling of the Provincial Court of Pastaza, claiming that mining operations illegally used stone material and damaged the surrounding environment. The Constitutional Court accepted the proposed extraordinary protective action and declared the violation of the rights of nature. It ordered the Ministry of the Environment to carry out an inspection in the area to determine the possible environmental damage to carry out the restoration work in the affected area at the expense of the offenders.
