Summary
In 2020 the Superior Court of the Judicial District of Ibagué in Colombia declared Complejo de Páramos “Las Hermosas” as a “Special Subject of Rights for its protection, recovery and conversation with an integral approach” and designated the President of the Republic as the legal representative. The court gave these rights in the same way it gave the Los Nevados National Park rights.
It is located in the moorland complex of the Colombian central mountain range in an altitudinal ranges from 1600 to 4500 meters above sea level. Its contains more than 400 lagoons and generates large water tributaries that are central to the development of the country’s agricultural and energy sectors; it is also a habitat and refuge for countless species of fauna and flora; this, combined with climatic, soil, geological and geomorphological conditions, determines its high biological diversity.
