Summary
On 12 April, 2024, a letter was submitted to the Wormerland Municipal Council on behalf of the Wijdse Kievitsweide, objecting, “as a living, natural entity”, to the council’s approval of a development plan for a sports complex located in the Wijdse Kievitsweide and asking the council to annul the decision. That submission was the first step regarding the rights for the Wijdse Kievitsweide initiative. The Wijdse Kievitsweide is a peat meadow located along the Kerkepad in Wormer, North Holland, and functions as an ecologically significant meadow for birds. The proposal arose in response to municipal plans to construct a sports complex within the area. The development plan to build a sports complex on the Wijdse Kievitsweide in Wormerland has been abandoned, but not due to granting it legal status or rights.
