Summary

In 2016, residents in Waterville, Ohio approved a Waterville Community Bill of Rights Charter Amendment, which established that “natural communities and ecosystems…possess the right to exist and flourish” within the city. Written with the help of CELDF, the ordinance prohibits the Nexus pipeline and a proposed compressor station. The ordinance includes the right to local community self-government, pure water, clean air, safe soil, peaceful enjoyment of home, to be free from toxic trespass, and to a sustainable energy future. The ordinance is still in effect.
