Summary
In 2009, residents of Van Etten, New York adopted an ordinance prohibiting corporate water withdrawal within the town’s jurisdiction. The ordinance declared natural communities “possess inalienable and fundamental rights to exist, flourish and naturally evolve within Van Ette.” (2). The ordinance also removed claims to legal rights and legal protections held by corporations within Van Etten’s jurisdiction.
