Summary
In 2016, a report by the Secretary-General outlines progresses made to implement the UN’s 2015 harmony with nature resolution and draws on contributions made by the eighth interactive dialogue of the General Assembly. The report said panellists in the dialogue “described promising approaches, trends and achievements, many of them initiated or promoted by the members of the Harmony with Nature Knowledge Network…” The report concludes by giving a series of recommendations divided into categories. The recommendations include progress towards Earth-centered law, including rights of nature laws; moving ecology, critical thinking and connection with Nature to the centre of the teaching of economics; increased eco-centered education; advancing a more integrated approach to Earth system studies; recognizing traditional cultures as examples for healing the Earth; introducing the concept of nature into mainstream environmental politics; fostering an interreligious dialogue; and encouraging the media to promote wider understanding about Earth Jurisprudence.
