Summary
On April 15, 2025, the organization Earth Thrive announced the completion of drafted legislation that recognizes the rights of rivers in Serbia. The Proposal for the National Law for the Rights of Rivers was transposed from a specifically drafted proposal for rights of rivers based on the various already adopted rights of Nature laws and declarations around the world. It was adapted to comply with the Serbian legal system. Earth Thrive (which works on Rights of Nature in the Balkan region through their Balkan Centre for the Rights of Nature platform) collaborated with the Earth Law Center and international Rivers to develop the draft legislation.
