Summary
GroenLinks council members submitted a motion ‘rights for nature’ with the request:
– Requests the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to investigate the legal and practical feasibility of granting legal personality to nature in the municipality of Beekdaelen. So that the environmental vision includes that Beekdaelen recognizes that nature in all its life forms has rights and that its interests must be represented.
– To share the results of this research and the progress in this dossier periodically with the municipal council. Always weigh the interests of nature (from bronze-green nature areas to Natura 2000 areas) in new policy to be formed and to make these interests clear in new council proposals.
-Involve all relevant social organizations, local experts and other stakeholders in this research into the implementation of rights for nature in Beekdaelen.
– Possibly organize pilots and/or working groups that focus on the implementation of rights for nature.
The motion was withdrawn.
