Summary

In 2017, the Medina County Board of Elections refused to certify a petition for a new community charter spearheaded by the NGO Sustainable Medina County. The proposed charter recognized that all ecosystems within the county of Medina possess the right to clean air, water, and soil. Other rights recognized in the charter include the right to local, community self-government; municipal autonomy; to untainted elections, initiative, referendum, and recall; to clean air, water, and soil; to be free from chemical trespass; to govern corporate activities; to a sustainable community; and to own property. The county joined 6 other Ohio counties in suing the State of Ohio.
