Summary
In 2017, an NGO called the Lincoln County Community Rights (LCCR) drafted an ordinance to ban aerial pesticide spraying within Lincoln County, Oregon. The ordinance declared that “all people of Lincoln County, along with natural communities and ecosystems within the County, possess the right to be free of aerially sprayed pesticides.” This is the first example of a county in the US banning aerial pesticide spraying through popular vote. However, representatives from the timber industry sued the county, and a judge declared the ordinance invalid in 2019. LCCR filed an appeal brief in 2020.
