Summary

In 2019, the Civil Municipal Court of La Plata-Huila ruled in favor of the residents of El Remolino neighborhood and the rights of the river. The judge found the city of La Plata responsible for the cleaning of the water and the Public Service sector responsible for sewer and aqueduct services. The case establishes the rights of residents to a healthy environment and a safe and dignified life as well as the rights of La Plata river. The ruling requires the Public Service and the city of La Plata to provide clean up and fumigation services for the vectors generated by the unclean water, updates to the sewer system, and conservation and mitigation plans for the environmental impact.
