Summary

In 2014, the Kent Environmental Rights Group spearheaded a proposed amendment for Kent, Ohio’s city charter. The amendment would have added a community bill of rights that recognized legal rights for natural communities and ecosystems within the city. The ordinance also recognized the right to local community self-government, pure water, clean air, be free from toxic trespass, peaceful enjoyment of home, and a sustainable energy future. However, voters rejected the measure.
