Summary
In 2018, the community group Buckingham: We the People (BWTP) announced a completed draft of a proposed ordinance to protect the James River Natural Community. The James River Natural Community Bill of Rights says the James River Natural Community faces significant threats from destructive human activity and conventional environmental laws, which regulate the use and exploitation of nature, have proven inadequate to protect the James River natural community. The ordinance, drafted with the help of CELDF, also recognized rights of natural communities and ecosystems within Buckingham County, Virginia.
