Summary

In 2019, the Constitutional Court of Ecuador confirmed a court ruling establishing violations to the rights of nature through the implementation of the project “Rehabilitation, Improvement and Expansion of the Third Order Road “La Union-Chaucan” for having carried out road works without prior environmental studies. The court entrusted the obligation to reforest to the Decentralized Autonomous Government of Azuay and the citizen Castillo Molina. The area of influence of the project includes the Collay Protected Forest and Vegetation, part of the Paute River basin.
