Summary
On January 25, 2019, Juan Diego Bustos (mayor of the Government of Gualaceo) filed a lawsuit for protective action against government officials of the Province of Azuay for violations to the rights of nature by a road work project that was being carried out without without prior environmental studies, which would cause environmental impact to the Collay Protected Forest and the Paute River basin. In 2019, the Constitutional Court of Ecuador confirmed a court ruling establishing violations to the rights of nature, and entrusted the responsibility of repairing damages to the Decentralized Autonomous Government of Azuay and the private citizen, Castillo Molina.
