Summary
In 2014, a group of residents in Gates Mills, Ohio rallied to get a community bill of rights charter amendment on the ballot. It recognizes the right to local, community self-government, to assert self government, to pure water, to clean air, to peaceful enjoyment of home and property, to be free from toxic trespass, and to a sustainable energy future. However, once it did make it on the ballot, voters rejected the law. The charter amendment would have recognized rights of nature and banned more oil and gas wells from being drilled within Gates Mills.
