Summary
In June 2024, Naturens Grundlovsmøde (’Nature’s Constitution Meeting’) was held at Himmelbjerggården, Denmark. The event is organized annually by the association Earthways with the intentions of helping people reconnect with nature and developing a constitution that includes legal rights for nature. The Naturens Grundlovsmøde is a draft of the Danish Constitution that takes an ecocentric approach to recognizing nature’s rights.
Among the provisions of the Naturens Grundlovsmøde, the document recognizes that nature ought to have representation in the citizens’ assembly; that species, ecosystems, and natural cycles be recognized as legal persons; and no person make a living from activities that harms the bio-general well-being in Denmark.
