Summary

In 2019, the group “Sí por los Derechos de la Naturaleza” drafted an ordinance proposal for the city of Ahuachapán, El Salvador that recognizes the right of La Laguna El Espino. The listed rights include the right to life, and a holistic, thriving existence; integral and systemic health; exist free from pollution; support all essential functions within its ecosystem; support native biodiversity and all naturally occurring species; restoration and rehabilitation, a sustainable climate; and independent legal guardianship to secure all of these rights.
