Summary

In 2013, the Ministry of Environment rescued and rehabilitated an injured Andean Condor, an endangered species. The condor was later found dead and shot by a hunter in the Napo province. The hunter was found and arrested in 2014. The Ministry of Environment submitted evidence to the District Attorney in Azuay. The hunter was charged with violating the rights of nature by killing an endangered species, which threatened the condors’ right to exist. The First Court of Criminal Guarantees of Azuay convicted the hunter and sentenced him to six months in prison.
