Summary
In 2016, residents of Barrington, New Hampshire adopted a community rights-based ordinance with the help of CELDF. The ordinance prohibits resource extraction and toxic waste disposal in order to protect the health, safety, and welfare of river ecosystems and residents. The ordinance also recognized the right to access water, pure water, clean air, peaceful enjoyment of home, scenic preservation, local community self-government, and assert the right to self-government.
