Summary
On May 30, 2024, city council members in Culemborg, Netherlands submitted a Motion to recognize and include the Rights of Nature when developing the city’s environmental vision in the environmental programmes and environmental plans to be drawn up. The motion calls on the board to:
– include that Culemborg recognises that nature in all its life forms has rights and that its interests must be represented;
– include that the interests of nature and nature reserves are always taken into account in new policies to be formulated and that these interests are made clear in new council proposals;
– involve relevant civil society organisations, local experts and other stakeholders in the implementation of rights for nature;
– organize pilots and/or working groups that focus on the implementation of rights for nature.
