Summary

In 2021, Dip. Hector Arce Rodriguez and other members of the House of Representatives submitted an ecocide law to Freddy Mamani Laura, president of the House. The proposal cites concern for the massive environmental damage and destruction over the decades and the threat it poses to all life. The proposal references Law N° 071 in which Mother Earth is recognized as a being with rights. Under the law, actions that threaten the continued health and functioning of natural systems will be punished under the revised penal code.
