Summary

In 2008, Blaine Township, Pennsylvania passed an ordinance banning corporations from taking private property within the township and limiting the powers of corporations within the township. The ordinance also recognized rights of nature within the township, declaring “Natural communities and ecosystems, including, but not limited to, wetlands, streams, rivers, aquifers, and other water systems, possess inalienable and fundamental rights to exist and flourish within the Township of Blaine.”
